Matir Gaan is a collaboration between young Bengali migrant, Mohammed After Hussain and Italian electronic artist, Andrea Rusconi (aka Paq). The resulting album delightfully combines the ancient folk songs of Md After's homeland with Paq's cosmic synth exotica.Mohammed After Hussain escaped Bangladesh in 2015 and arrived in Italy in 2017 after a long and dangerous journey across the Mediterranean from the violence he found in Libya. In Italy he found safety and hospitality as an asylum seeker in Rimini's Associazione Ardea, where Andrea is involved with 'Ardea Recordings' - a project aiming to create an archive of songs, stories and sounds by some of the people who spent some time with Ardea's refugee programme.Md After was invited to sing and play the folk and village songs he knew on the harmonium and pakhawaj (two headed drum) while Andrea immersed himself in the songs providing a bed of warm Crumar synth and Veena drones to create a finished album of totally uniquela renditions of the mystic Baul folk songs known so well by people across the Bangla speaking regions of India.The Bauls are a famous group of wandering minstrels from the region of Bengal whose culture is derived from the teachings of the early Sufi mystics and Hindu Fakhirs. The Baul devotees are considered to be mad, or possessed, with the love of God. While transcending religion the Baul compositions celebrate celestial and earthly love and expound the key philosophy of “Deha tatta” or truth in the body, epitomised by the aphorism “whatever is in the universe is in the body”. They reach for divinity here in this world and they seek to access it through music and dance. They seek spirituality in the music, they live fo r the music, wandering from village to village offering ecstatic sound waves in exchange for sustenance. Their presence remains an important part of village life in Bangladesh, and this is why Md After knows the songs despite the fact he would not consider himself part of the Baul ascetic tradition.We hope you'll enjoy this wonderfully psychedelic album, with its unique interpretations of these ancient mystic songs from the earth.Comes with a printed inner sleeve featuring sleeve notes and lyric translations by Brian P. For their 7” debut on Where To Now? U mines the considerable depths of his MPC hard drive to present 3 snapshots of an artist shaking off their formative influences and commencing the journey to unexplored realms of the sampler’s universe.'Junkies' has classical string stabs (that would later become a focal point on the sound of “Vienna Orchestra” (WTNLP05)) driven forth by dark, jazzy double bass licks, all shrouded in vinyl crackle and forced forward by a 2-step feel on the drums. It would have the essence of an early 2000s instrumental hip-hop track were it not for those drums shuffling off on a different tangent.'Too Good For Me' toys more with the sampled nature of the music, throwing abrupt rewinds and record manipulation into a melange of rumbling industrial sounds led by a pulsing high-pitched melody. This is underpinned by a Bossa-styled beat that further unsettles the murky atmosphere of the track.Finally 'Almost Man'’s exotic plucked strings and booming bass-heavy beat roll into snares in a marching rhythm that could reflect the march into the future for this unparalleled producer taking the lonely road to the outer edges of modern composition and electronic production.

Berghain resident Marcel Dettmann returns with a second album for Ostgut in the shape of the simply titled Dettmann II. Unlike Hollywood, this musical sequel to his debut self titled LP of three years packs just as hefty a punch and arrives with Marcel at his busiest. In addition to overseeing his MDR imprint and putting out a steady stream of EPs for Ostgut Ton, he's contributed two singles to Modeselektor's 50 Weapons as well as mixing an entry into Music Man's Conducted mix series. Hot on the heels of an entry into Bleep's techno-centric Green Series, Dettmann II arrives and follows a similar formula to his LP length debut. Expect a mixture of ambient soundscapes and minimalist experimental cuts going up against more uncompromising dancefloor material, and there's a high profile cast of supporting names involved too; Emika provides vocals on "Seduction" while multi-monikered Rene Pawlowitz and Levon Vincent have assisted in the production of the tracks "Aim" and "Outback".

Serious history business: 'Some Justice' was the first time Micky Finn and Aphrodite joined forces and launched a partnership that would change drum & bass history. Prior to them linking, Urban Shakedown comprised of Aphrodite and Claudio Giussani who had a run of fantastically euphoric hardcore crossover records during that golden rave era. 'Some Justice' landed in 91 and the instantly goosebumping vocal cut 'Burnin' Passion' landed in 93. Both of them enjoyed these touch-ups in 94, which still sound fantastic today. Feel the burn.

The Black Madonna, Liit, Aardvarck and Herva remix Nick Höppner’s Folk.It's great to watch the path that The Black Madonna has taken lately. Chicago’s Smart Bar resident has been tearing up clubs around the world, but few nights compare to her taking over Panorama Bar after Nick Höppner's set in March 2014 – that night was Disco and House mayhem on the dancefloor. Her remix of “Relate” puts more emphasis on the kickdrum, turning Höppner's dreamy original into a sturdy, 4/4-heavy House monster. A proper hit and proof of her singularity!A similar yet different approach comes from Berlin-based duo Liit: Their remix shines some wan and oppressive light on the album's buoyant pop gem “Come Closer”, really adding by subtracting. More unusual sounds and additional production are served with Dutch Aardvarck's treatment of “Grind Show” – a deep and mesmerizing piece of dancefloor voodoo and a classy earcatcher. Last but not least Herva jams on the brake, making “Rising Overheads” a slowed-down multi-layered offbeat deep dub with an overall sound & style of its own.With Remixes Nick Höppner follows up on his solo debut album release Folk.
