Departura
For their second joint album, Copenhagen artist Sofie Birch and Polish vocalist Antonina Nowacka trade DAWs and screens for strings, tape and wind-blown field recordings, sculpting Hiraeth - named after the untranslatable Welsh language term for a kind of objectless longing - from live, acoustic improvisations sketched in the hills of Sokolowsko. Unlike Languoria, their debut, this 2025 follow-up leans into analogue textures and pared-back methods, recorded directly to a Nagra machine among ruins, birdsong and late spring sunlight. The duo arrived with a guitar, a zither and little else; what emerged is quiet, glowing, and grounded in the moment. Sessions later resumed in a Copenhagen studio, where minimal layers of DX7, pipe organ and vibraphone deepen rather than dilute. A careful sensing of what's vanished, and the frequencies that still ripple from it.
