Albert Ilawi Malawi Music (AIMM001)

1x Vinyl LP Compilation

Release date: Jan 1, 2025

Albert "Ilawi" Malawi attended the same school as reggae dons like Leroy Smart and Johnny Clarke's brother, Fish, and later played drums with influential characters Augustus Pablo and Dennis Brown. While his name is not as well known, his sills are right up there and this release finally gives one of roots reggae's most revered singles its rightful place as the centrepiece of a full album. Long treasured by collectors, the 1970s classic now anchors a powerful collection of tracks recorded across the 70s and 80s. From the deep spiritual pulse of 'Lonely Walk' and 'Looking For Signs' to the unreleased treasures 'Jah Is Sweet' and 'Mercy Of Jah,' the record radiates authenticity and Rastafarian conviction. It is one to get to know if you didn't already, not least for the meditative closer 'Redemption Rock.'
