From 1969 comes a prime example of what's now called "boss reggae," though at the time it was simply reggae. Count Machuki, alongside pioneers like Sir Lord Comic and King Stitt, paved the way for the deejay explosion of the early 70s led by U Roy, Dennis Alcapone and Big Youth. Here, Machuki delivers his trademark "toasting" over a vibrant, driving rhythm likely courtesy of Joe Gibbs' studio band, The Destroyers, with hints of Niney's influence. A bright, vamping organ adds to the infectious energy, perfectly capturing the golden-era reggae sound that still brings the vibes today, with plenty of irresistible warmth.
