Count Machuki, The Destroyers

Count Machuki, alongside pioneers like Sir Lord Comic and King Stitt, paved the way for the deejay explosion of the early 70s led by U Roy, Dennis Alcapone and Big Youth. Here, Machuki delivers his trademark "toasting" over a vibrant, driving rhythm likely courtesy of Joe Gibbs' studio band, The Destroyers, with hints of Niney's influence. A bright, vamping organ adds to the infectious energy, perfectly capturing the golden-era reggae sound that still brings the vibes today, with plenty of irresistible warmth.
