Release date: Jan 1, 2024, UK

Absolute monster of a tune from Bunny Lie Lie, now properly credited, the original 1980 Trojan 12” credited Barry Brown as the artist in error. Produced by Linval Thompson using the Roots Radics at Channel One, voiced at King Tubby’s and mixed by Scientist. This is a classic example of the genre.

THESE REPRESSINGS ARE EXCELLENT, FLAT AND SOUND GREAT!

Originally born and raised in Spanish Town, Jamaica the singer Bunny Lie Lie is one of many talents that shaped the so-called Waterhouse Sound hailing from the Kingston ghetto with the same name in the early 1980ies. The 12inch „Living as a Brother“ was recorded in 1980 based on class A musical ingredients. Producer- and Labelowner Linval Thompson booked a session at the Channel One Studio with the Roots Radics as the muscians to shape this heavy sounding roots reggae instrumental track. As many other producers he used the same routine by sending the final multitrack tape recorded at Channel One over to King Tubby’s where Scientist was already waiting behind the desk to record the vocals delivered by Bunny Lie Lie. The lyrics are deeply influenced by the biblical adage: Be thy brother’s keeper. The instrumental and vocals culminate in a beautiful song that invites the listener to also reflect and rejunvenate or „build back“ as they say in Jamaica. Scientist additionally mixed down the vocal track and also did a masterpiece of a dubmix which can be found on the B-side with the name „Caring for my sister“. Unfortunately „Living as a Brother“ has been credited wrongly to Barry Brown which takes away the fame for this masterpiece done by Bunny Lie Lie who has a prolific music career spanning over 40 years and a massive catalogue recorded in many top notch recording studios such as King Tubby’s, Mixing Lab and Dynamic Sounds to name a few.
