DABEULL Cosmic Fonk Dabeull

Much demand has surrounded Daebull's 'Cosmic Fonk' for a vinyl version after their original release saw only to a digital version last year. Now the four-track EP from ultra style-conscious French artist David Said comes to full 12" glory, as tracks like 'Cosmic Fonk' and 'Glitter Fonk' continue to dazzle and floor listeners the world over. The definition of 'fonk' as opposed to 'funk' is ephemeral and difficult to pin down, but from our meticulous listening, we've come to conclude it means production simplicity, ghostly vocals, and an overall bent towards infectiouess.

Even global economic and social tumult can't faze The Harlem Gospel Travelers, who as a three-piece vocal unit are ever looking onwards and upwards towards the divine. Their first full-length LP as a trio, 'Look Up!' urges us to see the brighter side of live through intense gospel-soul fuelled by quasi-electronic breakbeats and modern production sheen.
Juanita EUKAMabanzoStrut
The Honeyshotz is a band/project put together by Ian Stevens , the bass player from The Getup and The King Rooster as a vehicle to record and perform a collection of songs that were written by himself and also with some of the other musicians involved. The band features Mark Claydon(The Getup / The King Rooster) on drums and percussion and Lee Blackmore (The Getup) on guitar . The man on the keys is Toby kinder from the Gene Drayton Unit and the vocals are taken care of by Sabina Challenger (formerly of The Getup and The Soul Grenades).Mark Norton (The Fantastics/ The Gene Drayton Unit) supplies sax and flute. The songs are very much in the vein of The Brand New Heavies and have that summertime Acid Jazz / Soul Funk Vibe.
With one half in Canada, the half in the UK, and one foot in D&B and the other in dubstep, Mystic State have cover vast space both physically and creatively. Back on Artikal for the third time, the duo remind us of their skills and low end prowess once again. 'Gallows' kicks off with PAV4N taking the lead mapping out existence and deceit over the wavy 808s. Deepness ensues... Both 'Blinded' and 'Understand' are pulsating, hypnotic pieces of work laced with trippy percussive elements while 'Inner Sanctum' finishes the EP with a mystical flute-flexing twist. The latest reissue from chOOn!! is Giedrius Kuprevičius' Erotidijos, the sixth release from the label that specialises in obscure, archival and forgotten releases.Erotidijos translates from the Lithuanian to “Erotidies” - these were festivals held in honour of Eros, God of Love in Ancient Greece. They were organised every five years and were famous for their celebrations, decorations and luxury. Ritual games were played during the festivals, musicians and poets competed, worshipping Eros.Erotidijos is a haunting yet hypnotic tableaux Kuprevičius originally created for a Stanislovas Rubinovas theatre play staged in 1994 in Kaunas, Lithuania. The Lithuanian composer was one of the founding members of the pioneering electronic pop outfit Argo and has written dozens of scores for stage and film over the past several decades, imbuing his soundwork with a multitude of artful moods and emotive depth. The story of Erotidijos unfolds in both melancholic and serenely lush scenery, in turn mysterious and playful. Memories of places you’ve never been drift into frame, from bedroom womb into a foliage of phantasmal keys and gently psychotropic symphonies. A collection that glissandos between notes, place, and time.Erotidijos is guided by an intuitive, improvisational dream logic that threads the line between waking and sleeping revelations. It offers a hazy, voyeuristic lens into another world with dusty ambience and eccentric keyboard effects, warm synth pads and shimmering vistas serving as soft accents to the angelic murmur of giggling voices. As you listen, you are invited to apply your own interpretation of Erotidijos’ narrative of a new land, its climate, sounds, and geography. A contemplative, celestial electronic work in a gentle, often beautiful ambient style which breezily swings with exquisite analogue synth textures and infinity loops. Jazz spontaneity and organic pop impulses lift the meditative veil, ending with a climactic final scene: a sensuous reverie complete with shedding light and gently opening synapses.Available for the first time on vinyl, including over thirty minutes of music not featured on the original cassette release and produced in cooperation with Giedrius Kuprevičius for chOOn!!.
Yao Bobby & Simon Grab are here once again, spitting the final breath of fire from the explosion of their recent album 'Wum' served up on LAVALAVA-Dished up on a very limited run 7" - hundred copies for the RWDFWD distro, and the rest for distribution IRL at Yao & Simon's live shows - here comes this next blast - quite possibly their most fierce and cantankerous yet.On one side, we have Nyagblodi - Not just a call, but a demand, to corrupt politicians in Africa. Yao's lyrics are a loud voice that demands putting words into action, and realising promises that were made for change - not just in his home country Togo, but all over Africa, which needs to break free from remnants of colonialist shackles, and the general plague of greed & selfishness, which seems to come hand in hand with 'power'.Rhythmically, Simon Grab goes fully hard knocks on this one - Coaxed out of feedback signals in the mixing desk, he builds on tensions from within the system itself, inhaling its own dirt until it is bulbous like a balloon about to burst. But this is no kids party type clown balloon - this balloon is made out of concrete. You've been warned. On the flip, we got 'Church' -On this track, Yao asks his fellow african brothers and sisters to stop looking to god for problems to be solved. Face reality and recognise the change that needs to come - not just from the outside, but also from within. Here, Simon Grab lets the turmoil unfoil with a hair-raisingly resonant bass pulse that comes on like a thunderstorm of dancehall rhythmics in XXXplosive mode.Pure, and undiluted heaviness - because sometimes fixing things is not good enough, often, for real change - something needs to break.
