Nine tracks of 'life-affirming downer music' by Swedish duo Charlott Malmenholt and Joakim Karlsson aka Treasury Of Puppies. Mitt Stora Nu is the Gothenburg-based duo's second album, following last year's titled Lollos Dagbok and their eponymous debut back in 2020. A collection of lo-fi and quirky indie-pop ditties, all said to have been influenced by Edgar Allan Poe as much as Britney Spears. Mastered by Giuseppe Ielasi and pressed in an edition of 1000 copies. Comes with insert.
International Anthem has become one of the contemporary jazz scenes most crucial labels. It deals in the most cutting edge sounds in the genre as well as offering up fantastic fusions with sounds from the world's hip-hop, R&B and broken beat. Here they look to Charles Stepney for an album that he recorded back in the 1960s in his Chicago basement. He played all the instruments himself and across four sides of vinyl he serves up his so-called and signature "baroque soul" sound with widescreen arrangements, innocent melodies and curious rhythms.
Wonky noir specialist, Kercha, is back with five spun-out cuts, merging dubstep, jazz, garage, techno and a whole lot of weird.‘Disarray’ is as discombobulating as its title suggests, a slinky beat hidden among umpteen odds and ends from Kercha’s cabinet of curiosities. A subby wiggle here, a far-off siren there, the warm tinkling of a Fender Rhodes, and was that someone falling down the stairs? Our only constant allies are a vaguely disturbing vocal and a bass clarinet that’s definitely up to no good.‘Witness’ employs a similar palette but switches tactics, stripping back to the basics as faint whispers and the ever-growing presence of a whirring alarm suggest something dangerous might be lurking around the corner.‘Conjugate’ is more direct, the percussion elevated from its usual backseat as thudding kicks and taught snares make their presence felt among the digi-dub wobbles — a theme repeated on digital bonus track ‘New World’, though there, jagged mid-bass lines provide an extra dollop of screwface-inciting muck. And bringing this leg of DNO’s journey to a close is ‘Long Way’, which rumbles along like a lonely night train, its chugging bassline matched with eerie engine whistles, the rhythmic clink of a cowbell and, somewhere deep in the mix, the familiar clickety-clack of tracks.Weaving together disparate worlds like some interdimensional architect, Kercha simultaneously places us among the inebriated haze and freewheeling expression of a basement jazz club, and the 10-tonne rhythms that have fuelled DNO’s parent party The Mine for the past decade, and will continue to do so into the future.
Real Jakbeat from thE kiDWith sum Bugg on topPure Chicago flavor, not for the weak or fakeNo repress, don't miss out, don't sleep.
Four more firing cuts of UK House & Garage from Club of Jacks back on their own imprint, once again bringing that fine fusion of 4/4 flavours.Kicking things off on the A side is Panther Dub, a darker, sub heavy, rolling number mixing together jazzy, rave and rude boy elements for a potent cocktail. One for the UKG heads.Mind Games mixes classic thumping, swinging drums, a driving deep bass and jazzy synths with a hooky vocal and a slamming piano line that comes in to raise hands and pulses.Real Good sits in a space between deep house and UKG again bringing a variety of elements into a melting pot of a groove.Closing out the EP is U GT DWN - a bumpy, trancey deep garage house vibe with lush filtered female from a classic vocal sample twisted with blissful strings.Produced by Club of Jacks, mastered by Curve.
Limited repress of the Scion collab for Omar S, High School Graffiti. Minimal jacking tracks. Going somewhere between old Unit Moebius and classic Chicago acid tracks. Addition Flute on Whos In Key (last track) by Theo Parrish. Tip!
