Combining Afro-Brazilian roots, electronic textures, and transatlantic songwriting, Yemamaya is the debut album from the Franco-Brazilian duo Luizga & iZem. The project began after the two artists met in Lisbon, and brings together Luizga’s melodic and spiritual vocals with iZem’s urban and modern production to create music that feels both rooted and universal.

At the center of the album is the title track “Yemamaya,” a word that came to Luizga in a dream. The song is a tribute to Yemanjá, the Afro-Brazilian goddess of the sea. It’s a joyful and healing piece, carried by Luizga’s bright voice and subtle electronic arrangements that connect spiritual energy with rhythm. It’s an ode to femininity, the ocean, and vital energy.

“Say My Name” is a fresh take on the Destiny’s Child classic. Smooth R&B vocals flow over warm Brazilian guitar, with danceable rhythms inspired by Afrobeats. Midway through, a surprising brass section leads into a deep, enveloping bass. The result is a track that balances nostalgia with a modern touch.

On “Feelings Going Through,” Curumin — a well-known figure from Brazil’s alternative scene — brings his distinct voice to the mix. The song is tender and catchy, exploring personal emotions with a soulful and organic feel.

With influences from Brazilian popular music and today’s global electronic sounds, Yemamaya is a bright and open album. It crosses genres and borders, moving between reflection and celebration.
