Don't sleep on this longawaited reissue of the Vels Trio'sfuture jazz album ! Rhythm Section Le Discopathe Montpellier

Killer !! Don't sleep on this longawaited reissue of the Vels Trio's future jazz album. We ❤ Rhythm Section.

In 2017, Vels Trio entered the UK jazz-fusion echelons with breakout EP Yellow Ochre on TRC. Conjuring the spirit of old greats and modern innovators like Herbie Hancock and Robert Glasper, the trio captured the underground audience whilst inaugurating themselves into the headsier jazz foray. With a feature from the mighty Shabaka Hutchings bolstering the EP to a broader audience, and astonishing live performances, the record led to sold out shows across Europe in 2018.

Since then the band have been busy on-hire for other prominent artists within international soulful jazz scenes, backing for the likes of Charlotte dos Santos and Poppy Ajudha. Their individual journeys involve drummer Dougal Taylor working with Emma-Jean Thackray and Neue Grafik Ensemble on critically acclaimed EPs, bassist Cameron Dawson signing to Ubiquity with Mamas Gun, and keyboard virtuoso Jack Stephenson Oliver creating dancefloor magic with our very own SAUL and Nigerian composer Etuk Ubong.

Fast forward to 2020, with follow-up single ‘The Wad’ conquering the Spotify jazz playlists, the band have an album in the works for 2021, dropping on your doorstep via Rhythm Section INTL.

In advance of our signing of the bands new album, we're most excited to re- release the classic "Yellow Ochre".
Originally released by the now legendary Total Refreshment Centre - the press has long been out of circulation - garnering silly prices on Discogs.
Our re-issue will be an upgrade - getting pressed on 180gsm heavyweight audiophile vinyl, available in balck & ltd edition yellow ochre.

The reissue also includes a breakbeat ‘n’ cuica remix of Yellow Ochre Pt. 1 from the ever-reliable beatmaker extraordinaire Footshooter (Dance Regular, YAM Records), ready for living room dancefloors **insert dub siren here** on 180 gram audiophile vinyl.

Wonderful LP definitly a must have for all fans of new auxtralien scene and contemporary JazzDavid Versace is an Australian multi-genre keyboardist, composer and producer based in Meanjin, Queensland. Growing up in a very musical household it was always important to express and embrace all types of music and sonics. His sound ranges from Jazz and Samba to ambient works and the odd dance-floor heater. David also plays in Meanjin nu-jazz dance outfit First Beige.Since late 2019, he has self released around 20 different tracks and with the most recent signing to La Sape Records David is excited to announce his debut solo album 'Okra' a conceptual body of work that flows through a culmination of raw organic concepts conceived In The Moment, and his most elegant & articulated work yet.
To write these few lines, we spoke to saxophonist François Jeanneau, an old friend of Jacques Thollot who also played on several of his albums, including the “Watch Devil Go” which interests us here. He told us a story which, according to him, sums up the personality of Thollot. A noted studio had reserved three days for a Thollot recording session. The first morning was devoted to sound checks and putting some order in the score sheets which Jacques would hand out in a somewhat anarchic manner. Then everyone went for lunch. When the musicians returned to the studio, Thollot had disappeared. He wasn’t seen again for the three days. When he reappeared, he had already forgotten why he had left, The music of Jacques Thollot is in the image of its’ author: it takes you somewhere, suddenly escapes and disappears, returning in an unexpected place as if nothing had happened.Four years after a first album on the Futura label in 1971, Jacques Thollot returned, this time on the Palm label of Jef Gilson, still with just as much surrealist poetry in his jazz. In thirty-five minutes and a few seconds, the French composer and drummer, who had been on the scene since he was thirteen, established himself as a link between Arnold Schoenberg and Don Cherry. Resistant to any imposedframework and always excessive, Thollot allows himself to do anything and everything: suspended time of an extraordinary delicacy, a stealthy explosion of the brass section, hallucinatory improvisation of the synthesisers, tight writing, teetering on the classical, and in the middle of all that, a hit; the title-track - that Madlib would one day end up hearing and sampling.“Watch Devil Go” was in the right place in the Palm catalogue, which welcomed the cream of the French avant-garde in the 70s. But it is also the story of a long friendship between two men. Jacques Thollot and Jef Gilson had known and respected one another for a long time. Though barely sixteen years old, Thollot was already on drums on the first albums by Gilson starting in 1963 and would play in his big band (alongside François Jeanneau once again), ‘Europamerica’, until the end of the 70s.In a career lasting half a century and centred on freedom Jacques Thollot played with the most important experimental musicians (Don Cherry, Sonny Sharrock, Michel Roques, Barney Wilen, Steve Lacy, François Tusques, Michel Portal, Jac Berrocal, Noël Akchoté...) and they all heard in him a pulsation coming from another world.Jérôme "Kalcha" Simonneau
Classic Cool/Bop session from 76, and regarded as one of the finest Norwegian jazz live recordings of the seventies featuring an impeccable performance by alto sax player Carl Neumann, playing mostly original songs by pianist Christian Reim, Bjørn Kjellemyr on Bass and Ole Jacob Hansen on drums. First time on vinyl format and with great sound quality, new pictures, new notes. Limited 500 copies.
Perfect piece of black music ! Organ power ! Real Gone Music re-issue of Chester Thompson's 'Powerhouse' from 1971, originally released in 1971 on Black Jazz Records.
Jazz saxophonist Tony Lavorgna, sometimes known as Captain Bad, recorded Chameleon with the St Thomas Jazz Quartet in 1982. The title track is a cover of Herbie Hancock's classic from Head Hunters, given a fresh lick on this superlative album of incredible renditions of long time favourites. Ray Charles' 'Georgia On My Mind', War's 'The World Is A Ghetto' and Dave Brubeck's 'Take The 'A' Train' all get a look in, given a soulful treatment which goes down very smooth indeed. On the strength of these, it's a shame the group never recorded more music together, covers or otherwise.
