Originally released in 2017, US free jazz collective Irreversible Entanglements' self-titled debut remains a searing statement of new school jazz intent. Born from a performance at a Musicians Against Police Brutality event, the album captures the first-ever session between Moor Mother, Luke Stewart, Keir Neuringer, Aquiles Navarro and Tcheser Holmes. What unfolds is an urgent fusion of free jazz and spoken word that's fearless and rooted in resistance while channelling the radical lineage of jazz as a force for Black liberation. This record refuses to soften its message and is a sonic rallying cry and a bold vision of a future still being fought for as much now as ever.
